1. SJVN signed MoU with Ministry of Power
  • Ajay Kumar Bhalla, Secretary (Power) and Shri Nand Lal Sharma, Chairman & Managing Director of SJVN (Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam) Limited has signed MoU with Ministry of Power for the year 2018-19.
  • As per the targets set in the MOU, SJVN seek to achieve 9200 Million Units generation during the year under ‘Excellent’ category.
  • SJVN will have Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) target of Rs. 900 crore and Turnover target of Rs. 2175 crore under the Excellent category.
2. Miguel Diaz-Canel appointed as Cuba's new president
  • Miguel Díaz-Canel has been appointed as the new president of Cuba after a secret vote in the country's National Assembly. Miguel is the first leader outside the Castro dynasty to lead the country since the 1959 revolution.
  • 57 years old Diaz-Canel was selected by a vote of 603-1.
  • Miguel Diaz-Canel replaced Raul Castro.
3. April 21- Civil Services Day
  • The Government of India celebrates April 21 every year as Civil Services day as a ceremony for the civil servants to renew their commitments to public service and excellence in work.
  • The first such function was held in Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, in 2006. The theme of the Conference was ‘Transforming India – Reform to Transform’.
  • The date is chosen to celebrate the day when 1st Home Minister of Independent India, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel addressed the probationers of Administrative Services Officers in 1947 at Metcalf House, Delhi. He referred to civil servants as the ‘steel frame of India’.
4. Swaziland King changed country's name to 'Kingdom of eSwatini'
  • Africa’s last absolute monarch, Swaziland’s King Mswati III, officially changed country's name to the ‘Kingdom of eSwatini’.
  • This announcement was made during the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the King’s 50th birthday as well as the 50th anniversary of Swazi’s independence from British colonial rule.
5. Pocket Cop Project launched by Gujarat Government
  • The Gujarat police launched the Pocket Cop project which will enable quicker verification of passport applicants and search of accused persons among others.
  • Chief Minister Vijay Rupani inaugurated this project in Gandhinagar.
  • Under this project, smartphones with data connectivity will be given to 4900 police personnel including every police station in-charge, investigating officer, and those involved in passport verification.
6. Nerses Krikorian, Scientist that made 1st-ever atom bomb, passed away
  • 97 year old Turkey-born scientist Nerses Krikorian, who worked at the Los Alamos National Laboratory, which developed the atomic bomb, has passed away.
  • In his career, he worked with uranium in the Manhattan Project and also helped to develop a nuclear-thermal rocket.
7. Karan Johar became 1st Indian Filmmaker in Madame Tussauds Collection
  • Karan Johar became the first-ever Bollywood filmmaker to get a place at the famous Madame Tussauds.
  • The process has begun in London and it will take around six months for the wax figurine to be ready.
