AFCAT Notification 2021

The notification for AFCAT 1 2024 has been released by Indian Air Force for admission to the prestigious Institutes. These applications are invited for Group A Gazetted Officers in the Flying Branch and Ground Duty Branch (Technical and non-technical). Candidates who aspire to join the Indian Air Force can apply.

The Air Force Common Entrance Test 1 2024 has been conducted by Indian Air Force on 16th, 17th, and 18th February 2024. Results have been declared by IAF.

AFCAT II 2024 will be conducted in the month of  February 2024, the notification for which will be released in 18th November 2023. AFCAT Eligibility Criteria

A candidate who falls into all the below-mentioned criteria can apply for the exam.

Nationality

A candidate must be a citizen of India as per the Indian Citizenship Act, 1955.

Age Limit

Flying Branch- 20-24 years. The upper age limit for candidates holding Commercial Pilot License issued by DGCA is 26 years.

Ground Duty (Technical and Non-technical)- 20-26 years.

IAF only accepts the date of birth as mentioned in the matriculation certificate.

Marital Status- The candidates below 25 years of age must be unmarried at the time of joining the course. Widows/ widowers and divorcees below 25 years of age are not eligible. If a candidate marries after joining the training, will be discharged after compensating any amount to the government which has been expended on him/her.

Educational Qualification

The criteria for the Ground Duty (Technical and non-technical) and Flying branches differ a lot. However, every candidate who is willing to apply for AFCAT must have secured at least 50% marks in both Maths and Physics each at 10+2 level. Candidates are advised to refer to the official notification for more information on educational qualifications.

Physical Standards

There are different physical and mental standards mentioned by IAF for the candidates.

AFCAT AFCAT Exams Pattern

The selection process is divided into four stages.

  1. AFCAT written Test
  2. EKT Test (Only for Technical candidates)
  3. AFSB Interview
  4. Final Selection

AFCAT Written Test

AFCAT written test is conducted for candidates who have opted for the flying branch or non-technical ground duty branch. It tests the candidates’ ability in general awareness, verbal ability, numerical ability, reasoning, and Military Aptitude Test.

The test comprises 100 questions to be solved in 2 hours. The candidate is awarded 3 marks for each question while every wrong answer makes him/ her lose 1 mark.

Engineer Knowledge Test (EKT)

This test is conducted for Technical Ground duty branch candidates who need to appear for the test along with the AFCAT exam. The test comprises questions from Mechanical, Electrical & Electronics, and Computer Science.

The test consists of 50 questions to be solved in 45 minutes. The candidate is awarded 3 marks for each question while every wrong answer makes him/ her lose 1 mark.

AFSB Interview

The Air Force Selection Board conducts this Interview for candidates who secure qualifying marks in the AFCAT exam. The candidates are required to choose their AFSB centers for Interviews. A venue and date once chosen, cannot be changed later.

AFSB is conducted in three stages-

Stage I- The first day is the screening day. The candidates undergo Officer Intelligence Rating Test and Picture Perception and Discussion Test. The candidates are checked for their eligibility once they qualify the screening test. Those who fail to qualify the screening test or do not fall under the eligibility criteria are sent back on the first day itself.

Stage II- In the second half of the day, a Psychological Test is conducted. Several tests and interviews including physical tests are conducted in the next four days.

Stage III- Those who qualify for Stage II and have opted for Flying Branch are recommended for the Computerised Pilot Selection System. This test is conducted only once in a lifetime of any candidate. If you fail in it once, you cannot become a Flying Officer ever.

Document verification is also conducted during the AFSB Interview. A candidate must have the following documents-

  1. AFCAT Admit Card.
  2. Original Matriculation/ Secondary School Certificate and Mark sheets issued by CBSE/ ICSE/ State Board. No other certificate will be accepted for verification of Date of Birth.
  3. Original Marksheet & Certificate of 10+2 (issued by the relevant Board).
  4. Original/ Provisional Graduation Degree/ Post Graduation Degree Certificates and Mark Sheet of each year/ semester issued by University – only for verification of educational qualifications to check eligibility for the course. A provisional certificate issued by the college Principal is not acceptable. However, a Provisional Degree Certificate issued by the University is acceptable.
  5. In case of final year/ semester students, a Certificate from the College Principal, clearly mentioning the following aspects annotated with proper stamp and seal of the Institution is required:-
  6. Name of the College.
  7. Name of the University
  8. Discipline in which Graduation/ Post Graduation obtained.
  9. Aggregate Percentage.
  10. Likely Date of Declaration of Final Result (in DD/MM/YYYY Format).
  11. Two attested photocopies of each of the above-mentioned certificates.
  12. Original NCC Certificate (if applicable).
  13. NOC from employers for candidates working in Central/ State Govt. or Public Sector Undertakings.
  14. Original valid Commercial Pilots’ License, issued by DGCA, if applicable.
  15. Inbound Railway Ticket/ Bus Tickets. (For refund of Travelling Allowance)
  16. Candidates are also advised to bring twenty copies of recent passport size color photographs taken in light-colored clothes against a white background for documentation.

A final merit list is issued by IAF stating the names of the selected candidates. The selected candidates are then sent to their respective institutes based on their choices.
