Air Force X & Y Group Exam 2024

Indian Air Force invites applications from unmarried male candidates (Indian/ Nepalese) for selection test for intake 01/2024 to join as airmen in Group X Trades (except Education Instructor Trade) and Group Y Trades (Except Indian Air Force (Security) and Musician Trades). The exam is conducted twice a year- in March and in September. The notification for the March exams has been released by IAF. Only online applications are accepted. The exam will be conducted between 20th & 21st February 2024.

Group X examination is a technical branch exam and the Group Y exam is for the non-technical position. The examinations are conducted for recruitment on the position below officer rank. Air Force X & Y Group Eligibility Criteria

The candidate must fall under the eligibility criteria in order to fill the online application form.

Nationality

Candidates must be a citizen of India. A Nepalese unmarried male citizen can also apply.

Age Limit

  • Candidates born between 16 January 2004 and 29 December 2007 (both days inclusive) are eligible to apply.
  • In case, a candidate clears all the stages of the Selection Procedure, then the upper age limit as on the date of enrolment is 21 years.

Educational Qualification

Group Educational Qualification
Group X (Except Education Instructor Trade) ●        Passed 10+2/equivalent exam with Mathematics, Physics & English

●        Have secured 50% marks in aggregate and 50% marks in English

●        Passed 3 years diploma course in Engineering in any stream with 50% marks aggregate & 50% marks in English

 

Group Y (Except Indian Air Force (Security) and Musician Trades) ●        Passed 10+2/equivalent exam with Mathematics, Physics & English

●        Have secured 50% marks in aggregate and 50% marks in English

 

Group Y (Medical Assistant Trade Only) ●        Passed 10+2/equivalent exam with Physics, Chemistry, Biology, & English

●        Have secured 50% marks in aggregate and 50% marks in English

 

 

Note-

  1. Candidates eligible for appearing in Group X examination (on the basis of intermediate/10+2) are also eligible for Group Y exam and have the option to appear in both the exams in one sitting. They can fill it up in application form.
  2. The percentage of marks obtained shall be considered as the first two marks appearing on the marksheet/ matriculation certificate. E.g. 49.99% will not be rounded off and shall be construed as 50% after rounding off.

Medical Standards

These are the basic medical standards to appear in the Indian Air Force X & Y Group examination.

Criteria Minimum standards
Height 152.5 cms minimum
Chest Minimum range of expansion- 5 cms.
Weight Should be in proportion with height and age
Eyes No Corneal surgery is allowed
Hearing To be able to hear whisper from 6 meters
Dental Should have at least 14 dental points
General Health Should be physically and mentally fit.

 

Note-

  1. Candidates are prohibited to consume any narcotics and drugs banned by NDPS Act, 1985.
  2. Permanent body tattoos are not allowed except on the inner part of the forearm (from elbow to wrist), back and front of the palm and for tribal and cultural reasons.

Air Force X & Y Group Exam Pattern

The Air Force X & Y Group examination takes place in three phases. Online test for candidates opting for both group ‘X’ & ‘Y’ shall be conducted in one sitting, on the same system

Phase –I

Group ‘X’ Trades (Except Education Instructor)- The test comprises objective type questions from English, Mathematics, and Physics as per CBSE 10+2 syllabus. The exam timing is 60 minutes.

Group ‘Y’ Trades [Except IAF(S) and Musician]- The test comprises objective type questions from English as per CBSE 10+2 syllabus and Reasoning and General Awareness. The exam timing is 45 minutes.

Both Group ‘X’ & ‘Y’ Trades- The test comprises objective type questions from English, Mathematics, and Physics as per CBSE 10+2 syllabus and Reasoning and General Awareness. The exam timing is 85 minutes.

Marking Pattern

(i)                  One mark for every correct answer.

(ii)                Nil (0) marks for questions not attempted.

(iii)               Deduction of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer

Phase- II

Candidates shortlisted in Phase-I are required to download new admit cards and reach designated Airmen Selection Centre with required documents. The eligibility of candidates is verified at the centre. Candidates must refer to the official notification by IAF for details of required documents. The eligible candidates are sent for the Physical Fitness test. It comprises 1.6 Km run to be completed within 06 minutes 30 seconds, 10 Push-ups, 10 Sit-ups and 20 Squats within the stipulated time to qualify in the Physical Fitness Test.

Adaptability Test I- Those who pass the Physical Fitness Test are then sent for the Adaptability test to check whether the candidate can cope with varied geographical terrain, weather, and operational conditions.

Adaptability Test II- This test is conducted to check whether the candidate can cope with the environment of Indian Air Force and military way of life. Only those who pass the adaptability test I are sent for Adaptability test II.

Phase III

Phase III is a medical examination. Only candidates who have passed Adaptability Test II are sent the appointment letters to appear for the Medical examination test at specified Airmen Selection Centre. The medical test details can be referred to from the official notification.

Air Force X & Y Group Training and Pay & Allowances

Training- Initially, candidates shall be sent for a Joint Basic Phase Training (JBPT)] at any of the Training Institute i.e., Basic Training Institute [Belagavi (Karnataka)]s, No. 2 ATS (Naliya) and ‘B’ Flight of MTTI (Avadi) or a station as decided by the Air HQs. If the trainee fails to achieve the required standards in academics, profession, physical fitness and discipline or is found to be medically unfit, training can be terminated at any time.

Pay & Allowances

During Training- The trainees will be receiving a stipend of Rs. 14,600/- per month.

After Training-

Group ‘X’ Trades (Except Education Instructor Trade)- Rs. 33,000 per month plus Dearness Allowance (as applicable). The pay may rise as per career growth in subsequent years.

Group ‘Y’ [Except IAF(S) and Musician Trades]- Rs. 26,900/- per month plus Dearness allowance (as applicable). The pay may rise as per career growth in subsequent years.
