The much awaited notification for WBCS 2020 has been finally released by the Public Service Commission, West Bengal (PSCWB). As expected the prelim exam is scheduled to be conducted on February 09th 2020. The result of prelim will be updated shortly,  however, the dates of mains exam as well as its result are yet to be announced. There are different groups in recruitment of such examination based on choice and merit of scored number. These are Group A, Group B ,Group C and Group D. The WBCS (Exe) officers belong to Group A . In general, As per record of the WBPSC the candidates with higher scores opt for WBCS (Exe), WBPS and some allied services as their first choice due to less strenuous nature of the service and the lure of metro posting. Only WBCS (EXE ) cadre is considered to be the State Civil Service by UPSC for direct promotion to IAS. Kindly, look at the following tables for other notable details for WBCS 2020 exam.

WBCS Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criteria of WBCS 2020 is prescribed by the Public Service Commission, West Bengal. WBCS eligibility criteria 2020 includes age limit, educational qualification, etc. In order to become eligible for WBCS 2020, candidates must fulfill the eligibility conditions mandated by the Commission.

  • Nationality– Candidates have to be a citizen of India
  • Age limit– Candidates must be between 21 and 36 years of age (Group A,B & C) and 39 years of age for (Group D) as on January 1, 2020 to be eligible for WBCS 2020
  • Relaxation of age– Candidates belonging to SC, ST and OBC categories form West Bengal will be able to avail age relaxation in the upper age limit. For SC and ST candidates, age will be relaxed by 5 years while OBC candidates will be provided up to three years of age relaxation. Candidates from PwD categories will be given age concession up to 45 years
  • Education Qualification– Candidate must have a degree from a recognized University to be eligible for WBCS


Rs. 35,000/- plus 24% HRA Rs. 8,400/- (Senior Research Fellow), Rs. 31,000/- Consolidated for Project Assistant and Rs. 32,000/- Consolidated for Computer Programmer Grade A 

Exam Centers

WBCS 2020 prelims exam will be held in 20 exam districts of West Bengal. Candidates will be allotted exam centers as per preferences provided while filling the application form. Candidate can select exam districts while filling the application form and centers will be allocated accordingly.
