The exam pattern for both the exam stages are given below:
First Stage CBT (CBT 1)

- These percentage of marks for eligibility may be relaxed by 2% for PWD candidates in case of shortage of PWD candidates against vacancies reserved for them.
- The score of first stage exam shall be used only for shortlisting of candidates for second stage exam as per their merit.
Second Stage CBT (CBT 2):

- Total Duration: 2 hours and 30 Minutes (for Part A and Part B together)
Computer Based Aptitude Test:
- Qualifying marks: The candidate needs to secure a minimum score of 42 marks in each of the test batteries to qualify. This is applicable to all candidates and no relaxation is permissible.
- Candidates equal to 8 times number of ALP vacancies shall be shortlisted for Computer Based AT (based on their performance in Part A of the Second Stage CBT subject to their qualifying the Part B of Second Stage CBT).
- Candidates will have to qualify in each of the test battery of Computer-Based AT for considering them for the post of ALP.
- The Computer-Based Aptitude Test shall have questions and answer options only in English and Hindi. There shall be no negative marking in Computer-Based AT.
- The ALP merit list will be drawn only from amongst the candidates qualifying in the Aptitude Test, with 70% weightage for the marks obtained in Part A of Second Stage CBT and 30% weightage for the marks obtained in Computer-Based AT.
Shortlisting of Candidates:
- Shortlisting of Candidates for the Second Stage CBT exam shall be based on the normalized marks obtained by them in the First Stage CBT Exam.
- The total number of candidates to be shortlisted for the second stage shall be 15 times the community wise total vacancy of ALP and Technician Posts notified against the RRB as per their merit in First Stage CBT.
- However, Railways reserve the right to increase/decrease this limit in total or for any specific trade(s) as required to ensure availability of adequate candidates for all the notified posts.
- The marks scored in Part A alone shall be used for shortlisting of candidates for further stages of the recruitment process subject to the condition that the candidate is securing qualifying mark in Part B.
- Part B is qualifying in nature and shall have questions from the trade syllabus prescribed by Director General of Employment & Training (DGET).
